Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has implemented an online registration process using Form G-325R, Biographic Information (Registration), for certain noncitizens who have not already satisfied the federal alien registration requirement. The final rule is effective as of June 29, 2026, with request for comments on potential future changes through August 28, 2026.

The Registration requirement generally applies, with limited exceptions, to noncitizens age 14 or older who were not previously registered and fingerprinted, if required, and who remain in the United States for 30 days or longer.

Key Notes:

• Form G-325R is filed online through an individual USCIS online account, and no processing fee is required.
• After registration and biometrics, if required, USCIS posts USCIS Proof of G-325R Registration to the individual’s USCIS online account.
• Many noncitizens do not need to file Form G-325R as they are already registered through prior immigration processes, such as admission with a visa, issuance of Form I-94/I-94W, lawful permanent residence, parole, removal proceedings, or issuance of certain USCIS documents.
• Noncitizens of age 18 or older who are required to register must carry evidence of registration.
• Parents or legal guardians must register children under age 14 if registration is required.
• A previously registered child must apply for re-registration and fingerprinting within 30 days after turning 14.
• Registration is a compliance obligation, and it does not provide or prove immigration status, employment authorization, or any other immigration benefit.
• USCIS notes that failure to comply may result in criminal and civil penalties, up to and including misdemeanor prosecution, the imposition of fines, and incarceration.

Before taking any action in compliance with the Registration requirement and submitting Form G-325R, individuals should confirm whether they are already registered and whether they possess acceptable proof of registration in accordance with the final rule. As the registration analysis is highly fact-specific, noncitizens should consult their immigration counsel to review their individual immigration history to determine whether any registration-related action is required in their specific case.
